Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 19, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Fairshare*s (“we,” “us”) handles information when you use Fairshare*s websites, mobile apps, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). It should be read together with our Terms of Use.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and change the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as required by law.
2. Information we collect
Account and authentication. If you sign in (for example with Google), we receive identifiers such as your name, email address, and profile image from your provider. We store session data needed to keep you logged in.
Profile and payments. You may optionally save a Venmo username so others can pay you when you are the payer on a receipt.
Receipts and splits. This includes receipt images stored in our cloud storage, parsed or entered line items, amounts, notes, sharing settings, and claims you make on shared receipts. Receipts may contain personal or sensitive information depending on what appears on the receipt or what you add.
Guest participants. When someone joins a receipt without a full account, we may store a display name, email address, and session identifiers needed to attribute their claims.
Push notifications. If you enable notifications on a mobile device, we store an Expo push token and platform identifier to send receipt updates.
Usage and technical data. We collect operational information such as approximate location derived from IP address, device or browser type, app version, timestamps, and server logs needed to run and secure the Service. We do not use third-party product analytics services; error reporting via Sentry is disabled.
3. Cookies and local storage
On the web, we use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your authentication session and remember preferences such as theme. In our mobile app, we store your session token in secure device storage. You can clear cookies in your browser settings; signing out ends your session.
4. Receipt OCR
When you scan or upload a receipt, we may send the image to OpenRouter to extract line items and amounts. This processing is used only to operate the Service. OpenRouter routes the image to a third-party AI model provider and does not use this data to show you ads through Fairshare*s, and we do not use OCR for advertising.
5. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Service (including OCR, splitting, sharing, and push)
- Authenticate users and protect accounts
- Debug, secure, and prevent abuse using operational logs
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms
- Produce internal aggregated statistics that do not identify you (we do not sell personal information)
6. Subprocessors
We use the following service providers to run Fairshare*s. They process data on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own marketing:
- Google — OAuth sign-in
- OpenRouter — receipt OCR
- Cloudflare — hosting, Workers, D1 database, R2 image storage
- Expo — mobile push notification delivery
- Better Auth — session and account management
7. How we share information
Sharing you request. When you share a receipt or link with others, the content you choose to share is visible as you configure it.
Legal. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, us, or the public.
We do not sell your personal information.
8. Retention
We keep information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, sessions, push tokens, receipts you created (including images), and claims tied to your account, subject to backup and legal retention limits.
9. Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account in the mobile app or web profile. Deleting your account permanently removes your account data, profile, push tokens, and all receipts you created (including shared links and stored images). If you only participated on receipts created by others, your claims on those receipts are removed; the receipts themselves remain for other participants.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export certain personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Account deletion in Profile is the fastest way to delete your data. For other privacy requests, see our Contact & support. We may need to verify your request. You may also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority where applicable.
12. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us through Contact & support and we will take appropriate steps.
13. International users
We may process and store information in the United States and other countries where we or our providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection rules than your own.
